A very active and vocal species. Spends a lot of time on perches low to the ground; often near water. Constantly dips their tails when perched. Feeds mostly on insects. Builds a nest of mud on or under structures such as bridges and buildings. Non-migratory, but known to wander after breeding season. Found mainly in California and areas south. Currently only one record for the checklist area. The few records for Canada, all in BC, number around ten separate sightings.
Similar species:
The behaviour, black body and white belly is fairly unique and not likely to be confused with other species.
